Top Questions to Ask a Wedding DJ

What are the Top Questions to Ask a Wedding DJ?

If you are in the market for a DJ because you are about to get married, this post will help you ask some of the top questions you should be asking your wedding dj. I’ll also share a video from a recent facebook live Vlog or Podcast where me and a few other DJs share in a Q&A about some of these really tough questions you should be asking your DJ before you hire them.

When hiring a dj, it is of uttermost importance that you hire a DJ that will represent your style, your personality, the music you like and more importantly… the dj will be representing you to your guests and family.

The Dj has many responsibilities, from making sure his equipment works flawlessly, to making sure the guests are informed about what is going on at the wedding.

You can’t just assume that the DJ is going to do something because you saw another DJ do it, you have to ask to make sure. Every DJ is different and every DJ company has different types of DJ.

You can’t hire a Country music DJ and expect him to play 5 hours of R&B and Hip Hop. And Vice Versa. That’s a tough job for a dj that is not fluent in those genres of music.

Let’s answer some of these questions here:

What Makes Your Company Different From Others? What is your Brand and Genre of music you play?

We are different and what sets us apart is our style. Our Motivation. The Love that we have for our clients. The Word Love is almost non existent these days. But we do love our clients as if they are our own family. So we go above and beyond to make them happy. For Example, the day of the wedding we will make sure that their guests are listening to some soft music for dinner to allow everyone to have a proper conversation with the people and loved ones around them. Above all, great ambiance is key to a great time.

In addition, as far as music goes, we cater to our clients, we cover most genres, especially in a diverse city like Houston and Dallas, two of the biggest cities in all of the United States. So the genres of music we play can vary from Country, to Hip Hop, to Salsa, to Merengue, Bachata, Cumbias, etc… In other words, we have to be fluent on the majority of hits. From Every Genre.

How do you Guarantee you will be at my event or wedding? Do you have back up DJs available?

This a really tough question to ask a DJ. It’s really hard to guarantee someone will be at your event if the DJ does not have a network or team of djs to rely on if something happens. For instance, we have been in a situation where we get a call, the day of the event. The DJ has not showed up. And usually within minutes, from our team of DJ and our Network of professionals, we can have someone on the way promptly.

Question: What is your experience and education in the DJ Industry?

Experience and Education are what makes us professional. We must strive to be better in EVERY aspect of performance. It’s not just about playing music. We have to deliver our message in an effective manner. We also have to grow by learning.

For instance, we have had training through a workshop as Masters of Ceremonies by Mark Ferrell. What to say and HOW to say it. Furthermore, we’ve had training on the Professional Process with Peter Merry.

So it’s not just about grabbing the microphone and playing some songs. So there is a method to the madness.

Are your prices the same all year round? During the week or weekends do your rates change?

Prices usually fluctuate. During the week, the DJs are not requested as much so you can definitely save some money by booking a DJ During a Monday through a Thursday. After that, Friday through Sunday prices will generally be higher, as a result of people mostly doing their events on the weekends.

What about times of the Year?

For Instance, busy wedding season for my company is usually May through July and then at the end of the year, September through December. Those are our PRIME Months.

We also run Several sales throughout the year, our biggest sale is coming up and it’s our Black Friday Sale so if you want to know our price specials, you should register for our sale.

Do you guys provide service out of town? Dallas, Austin, San Antonio?

Yes we do, we love visiting our neighboring cities. This is one Top Questions to Ask a Wedding DJ. If you are in a rural or smaller city, you want to know if your DJ will come out to you. Another thing would be if you like to see a different style of DJ for your event.

Do you charge extra for ceremonies? What if you need a musician to plug into your sound system? Can you do it?

This is a great question to ask. It’s two different questions but can qualify to be effective one event of your wedding. For instance, if you need ceremony system, we usually only prepare for one microphone, the officiants’. But if you will have live musicians, will they also need a microphone? Or do they need a cable into our sound system? Therefore, knowing more info from how your ceremony will be held is very important to us.

We have a package that includes your ceremony system, and one without it. We also have the ceremony system option as an add on. That is to say, what if when you booked your DJ you didn’t realize you needed music for the ceremony. As a result, it can be added after the fact.

Inside the reception area, the same applies. However, we do need to know ahead of time, so that we can have the proper equipment available.
