A potential client asked for information about my DJ service package for a Quinceañera. I responded with a quick “Sure, what date is your event?” They said it was on October 11, 2024, in Angleton, TX. I asked if it was at The Springs venue, and they confirmed. We clarified that it’s just the reception, no ceremony and that it will be inside. When I asked for the event timing, they mentioned it would end at midnight but hadn’t decided on a start time yet.
I was contacted through my TikTok account. The Mother of the Quinceanera reached out and wanted a DJ who could play the music I have on my TikTok Account.
2. The Venue: A Look at The Springs in Angleton

The Springs Events Venue in Angleton, Texas, offers a stunning setting with its Sycamore Hall, perfect for elegant celebrations. Inspired by classic Italian architecture, the Sycamore Hall features stone walls, exposed wooden beams, and large arched windows that fill the space with natural light, creating a warm and fun ambiance. The room accommodates both intimate gatherings and larger events, with a spacious dance floor and plenty of seating. Set amidst beautiful outdoor landscapes, including lush gardens and scenic views, this venue provides an idyllic backdrop for the quinceañera.


3. Client Requirements: Crafting the Perfect Music Experience
- DJ Service: DJ services are required for the reception only, as there will be no ceremony.
- Music Preferences: The client inquired about entrance and presentation songs but hadn’t prepared a playlist at the time. They requested guidance on how to provide the songs.
The client’s requirements included music that everyone could dance to. There was no music playlist selected to give me an idea of what to play, they just said they like to dance to everything. There were a few songs selected but those were only the important dances of the event.

- Sister and quinceañera
- Grandma and quinceañera

4. Pre-Event Planning: Coordinating with the Client and Venue
- Highlight the communication, playlist customization, and event coordination process between DJ Francisco, the client, and the venue team.
The Planning was really basic and to the point. I was given a list of songs they would provide and I came up with the other two.
We went over everything they wanted to do over the phone and came up with a timeline that I could follow which included all the important dances, names of important members, and activities that had to be announced.
The event begins with dinner at 6 pm, followed by a grand entrance at 7 pm to the song “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys, with Kaylee escorted by Chambelan Noe, along with Marylou and Albert. Afterward, key dances take place, including the waltz, father/daughter dance with Albert Torres, mother/son dance with Marylou, and a sister dance with Kendra, as well as a special dance with Kaylee’s grandmother, MariaLuisa.
The traditional changing of the shoes will be led by Albert Torres, followed by the crowning ceremony where Kendra crowns Kaylee. A surprise gift will be presented by Jose and Jennifer Gloria, Kaylee’s aunt and uncle, leading into the family toast by Mom, Dad, and Aunt Jennifer and Uncle Jose. After the cake cutting, Kaylee will change outfits before a surprise dance, and the night will continue with a mix of Mexicanos (Huapango) and reggaeton music.
5. Event Setup: Ensuring a Seamless Experience
- How the equipment was set up, the lighting, and the sound system adjustments made to fit the venue.

For this event, we provided our Basic DJ Serivice with upgraded trussing and intelligent lighting. We also included one 18-inch subwoofer for added bass. We went with our all-white, elegante setup with 5 uplights in the stage for added decor to match the colors of the event. We also included our white fabric facade, to cover the table and dj booth. The truss was covered with our elegante truss covers that had the words “MIS XV” running vertically from top to bottom.
We were instructed to set up in the stage with our DJ setup. Many times, the main table of the bride and groom or the quinceanera is set up on the stage so they can be the focus of the event.
6. The Performance: DJ Francisco in Action

This event was very delightful for me to perform at. The family was extremely nice and down to earth. They loved to dance, so that helped make my job a lot easier. Everyone was friendly and very welcoming.
We played all the line dances, and some songs like the Wobble and the Cupid Shuffle were played twice at the request of the guests.

7. Challenges and Solutions: Overcoming Event Hurdles
- Challenges faced during the event.
There were a few challenges during this event.
- Special Dances: All special dance songs were mixed into one mp3 file.
- Dance Music List: No Dance Music List was provided
- Room Size: Large room with low guest count
- Timeline: There was no formal timeline created, just a basic idea.
- Songs: Not all songs were selected. I was missing the entrance song and the background song for the changing of the shoes and crowning.
Special Dances
1. All the special dance songs were sent to me as one file. The problem with this is that there’s limited time between each song. If I play the file without stopping, there won’t be enough time for the person to reach the dance floor before the song ends. There was only a 5-second gap between each song, and it usually took people that long just to get up from their seats.
When I first received the MP3, I wasn’t sure what to do, so I set up a call to ask if I should cut the file into 6 separate MP3s or if I had to play the single file as it was.
After talking to the mom, I realized I had two options: either split the file into 6 separate songs or set 6 cue points in my DJ software, Serato, and label each one correctly.
Dance Music List
2. I asked the mom if they had a playlist to help me with the music selection for the night, but I never received one. I request a playlist because it helps me get a better sense of the type of songs they’d enjoy throughout the event.
Having a list also ensures I play songs they like. If a song is on the list, there’s a higher chance I’ll include it in the night’s playlist, especially if it’s great for dancing. For example, if ’24k Magic’ is on the list for a quinceañera, I might not initially think to play it since it’s a pop song and a bit older, but knowing it’s a favorite helps me make sure it gets played.
Room Size
3. The room holds approximately 300 guests. The family expected about 200 guests, but only 100 plus guests showed up. Having a huge room with a low guest attendance can be a bit intimidating especially since the dance floor ran the length of the room as seen in the photos and video.
Timeline
4. There was no timeline created by the mom of the quinceanera, so I had to step in and work with her vision to create the perfect timeline that would fit the event based on what she had in mind. By asking a few questions to her, I was able to help her establish a timeline we could follow and I even suggested a few edits to make the event flow smoother.
Songs
By going through the timeline we created, I was able to see that there were a couple of songs they had not selected. The grand entrance song was not selected, which they later sent me, and the song was to play in the background as there was the crowning and the changing of the shoes. I was able to select one for them. It looked to me like Halo by Beyonce was a good match for them. I always prefer to play the instrumental song.

I was thanked by both mom and dad as well as the quinceanera. They said everything went great, the music was good, and that their guests kept saying the DJ was playing good music. The father thanked me a couple of times at the end of the night.
9. Why DJ Francisco: The Key to a Successful Event at The Springs
I understand why they chose to book me. My TikTok videos showcase the songs I regularly play, and people often dance to them in those clips. With my years of experience, I was able to read the crowd and play songs I thought they would enjoy. That said, I didn’t get it perfect—there were a few songs that didn’t get anyone on the dance floor. Part of that was because I didn’t have a playlist to guide me, so I had to guess what they might like. This can happen, especially with smaller guest counts. With larger crowds, it’s easier to keep the dance floor full because there’s more variety in taste. But with smaller groups, fewer people might like certain songs. If just one couple gets up to dance, they often feel shy about being the only ones out there, so they might sit down halfway through the song.

DJing at The Springs Venue for this Quinceañera was a rewarding experience, despite the unique challenges. From the venue’s beautiful setting to detailed event planning, everything came together to create a memorable evening for the client and their guests. While the absence of a full playlist and the large room with a smaller guest count posed some obstacles, I was able to adjust, using my experience to keep the energy high and the dance floor active.
The feedback from the family made it clear that they were pleased with how the event turned out, particularly the music selection and flow of the night.
