The only time in human history when there was a true theocracy of the true God, was at the time of Joshua. After the time of Joshua, there was a period of time in which judges ruled over the tribes of Israel. Finally, the people became rebellious and wanted to withdraw from God (1 Samuel 8:7) and have a physical king. God allowed this withdrawal. But there was a penalty; they would be taxed on their farms and taxed on their sheep (verses 15 and 17). This was a negative they accepted as a result of rejecting their Creator.

Taxation has always been a negative. Glossing over this negative and making it appear as if it were positive has become an art in today?s society, particularly in the unpopular media of the United States. Contrary to popular opinions, it was not an extravagant tax on the tea that caused the Boston Tea Party. It was a tiny tax. But that is exactly the way taxes get started. They start tiny and then grow. In behavior psychology we call it as successive approximation, gradually moving the subject in the direction of where he is destined to be. The rich corporations just pass their tax on to the middle class in the form of higher prices for everything and the middle class gets taxed into the dirt. At the present rate of taxation and price gouging, the middle class will soon cease to exist.

God’s Point of View on Money

There was the additional issue of taxation without representation at the original Boston Tea Party. The Colonies were not represented in England, yet King George wanted to tax them. In today?s world we also have a problem of no representation. The second bailout bill was loaded down with pork, pork that benefits the most corrupt Washington politicians, not the taxpayer. And yet, it passed through congress and became law, mortgaging the next generation up to their eyeballs. And still the bankers are as oppressive as ever, in some cases, even more so, raising their fees on the very people who bailed them out. That is just one of the problems with representation. The other problems are the lobbies. We have, for the most part, a government, of the lobby, by the lobby, and for the lobby. This will not change. We have taxation without representation.

When bribery rules the country, the poor person goes to the back of the line. ??they afflict the just, they accept a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right? (Amos 5:12). The new President is not all that much to blame; it is congress that appropriates and controls the purse strings. The President can do little without the help of congress. It is the majority of congress that has dropped the ball badly. And only a handful in congress are sounding the alarm that our economy is being eaten away like a cancer, dropping into the black hole of socialized banking. Europe?s taxation is even more oppressive than that in the United States. The famous raiser of taxes is about to flex his muscle in Europe. He will be replaced by the person referred to as the willful king (Daniel 11:20-21), who will come into power peaceably by using flatteries. The word ?flatteries? is from the Hebrew word ?chalaqlaqqah?, meaning flattery, slipperiness, fine promises, and smoothness.

The willful king will continue to corrupt people through flatteries, but those who know God will be strong and do exploits (Daniel 11:32). The two witnesses in Jerusalem will be divinely protected for three and a half years (Revelation chapter 11); the willful king will fortify himself in the place of safety (Daniel 11:39) because he will become the object of hate, but he will eventually come to his end (verse 45).
