Smile for the Camera

I love taking picture. Especially pictures of people having fun, with great big smiles. I believe that a picture like that captures the person in a time that they are free, they let go, so to speak. Really, they are behaving like a small child would when he is playing and having a great time … Read more

How to Prepare a Toast!

Houston Wedding DJ Toasting TipsIt is a privilege and an honor to be invited to a wedding as a guest.

It is even a greater privilege to be invited as part of the bridal party.

But, the greatest privilege is to be asked to be the best man or the maid of honor.

To the Best Man or Maid of Honor!

The bride and groom have asked you to be the best man or maid of honor. They trust you and will rely on you for help and support throughout the entire wedding planning and the wedding day. Apparently, you are someone very special and important in their life and they feel they can’t do it without your help.

During the toast, you are responsible for all the guests to know a little something special about them and provide a great reason for everyone to toast. This is a big responsibility and should NOT be taken lightly.

Think about it. If you were the bride or groom, and you invite co-workers, family members, and special friends to your wedding, wouldn’t you want to be represented in a positive, fun, entertaining, and memorable way?

Wouldn’t you want your best man and maid of honor to do the very best job they can at giving a fantastic toast?

Well, good, I’m glad you agree and understand. :)

Here are a few basic guidelines to follow in creating the best toast you can give.

What does it take to create an OUT OF THIS WOLD Reception?

What does it take to create an OUT OF THIS WOLD Reception?

High Expectations?

Picky?

Know what you want?

Creating your life-long dream wedding reception should be a breeze!

Most of my brides are very picky when it comes to their entertainment. They have certain genres of music that they want to be played at their reception and they want their event to flow smoothly. Additionally, they want everyone to have a great time. The DJ or MC must be a professional who knows what he or she is doing and will make the guest of honor look good for choosing their service. They want spectacular announcements; Clear and Concise, a great mix of music, and they want to have the best reception, ever!

Pretty standard and straight foreword right?!

Well… it is. I have to usually entertain two to three and sometimes even up to four different cultures. I don’t want to sound too, overly confident, but most of my Weddings and Quinceaneras are very successful and I usually get a big thank you from the bride and groom, Quinceanera, or the parents at the end of every reception. The majority of the people whom I entertain have High Expectations and standards, are Picky, and know exactly what they want. As a result, they are very grateful once their reception comes out as they expected.

So How do you Create that Out of this World Reception?

Practice & N-joy!

Yes, it takes practice and you have to enjoy what you do. The link above is a YouTube website for Brian S. Redd, a DJ in Milwaukee who likes to share his wedding experience on YouTube. I think I watched over 10 of his videos today and I was entertained to see how he works.

What makes you a Professional?
I’ve considered myself a Professional DJ for the past 20 years. I’ve invested some time and money into learning the trade. I learn, I perform, and I succeed.
Professional DJ

Who is a Professional DJ

In short, one who studies and educates himself on the topic is a Professional DJ. A professional DJ will make a full-time income from his profession. Education may come in many forms. Workshops, Training, Practice, and the Performance of the learned abilities. How Much Does a professional DJ Make?

What does a DJ Actually do to Become a Professional DJ?

Training is important. Training can be taking classes on how to use a microphone. Training can also include taking classes about what to say on the microphone. There is also training on how to mix two songs together. A DJ must learn the music for the people whom he will be playing for. A DJ will also need to be able to connect and troubleshoot his DJ equipment. Practice, Practice Practice.  Practicing what you learn is one of the hardest steps. But, practice takes a shy, introvert, from shy to one of the best and most sought out DJs in the Houston Area.

The DJ Training I have taken as A Professional DJ

Below are some of the DJ training I have taken in my career as a Pro.

At the Improv

I’ve taken some improv classes at Massive Creativity to help me think faster on my feet. If anything happens that is out of the ordinary, with the training I received at Massive. I can adapt to the situation. They teach you to build connections and to use your emotions to keep those connections… alive, so to speak. So whenever I perform the role of Master of Ceremonies, and I am in the middle of a presentation that goes bad, instead of sitting there and freezing and making the situation worse, I can come up with something to make it a lot better…

One situation that recently happened was…

Wedding Songs October

Wedding DJ Weekly Journey sharing successes!Today is a beautiful day, its nice and sunny… and cool. I love this weather and we don’t get much of it down here in Houston.

I went jogging last night and it was also pleasant weather to do some exercise. Boy am I feeling the burn today :) But hey, no pain no gain right. Well In this case I hope is loss.

I’ve decided to drop some pounds and I’ve tried weight lifting, crunches, and push ups for about 8 months and only lost 10 lbs. as of last night. But the good thing is that they have stayed off while still eating bad, unhealthy food. Pizza, my wife’s home cooking with a lot of grease ;) , fast food, and so on. So my next step is to add cardio and I’ve chosen to do running over purchasing exerciser equipment for a few reasons.

First, I get to enjoy the outside weather, the peace and tranquility of a park, the feeling of freedom, and just getting outside to breathe some fresh, well as fresh as it gets for Houston, air.
