Your first venue suffered flood damage last year
You should get married in Houston on Saturday
(CNN) –
They say the third time is a charm, but that doesn’t apply to the Texan couple Jenny Swarers and Dustin Morgan. They had to cancel their wedding three times – all thanks to floods.
The couple met in high school and started dating about five years ago. After they got engaged, they spent a year planning their dream wedding, only to crush their hopes when the Sabine River flooded in April 2016.
“The venue had 6 feet of water,” said Swarers.
They decided to reschedule the event in the same location for the following April, but construction to repair the flood damage was still ongoing and the venue wasn’t ready for their appointment.
So Plan C was a wedding in Houston that Saturday, attended by 150 people.
But Hurricane Harvey had other plans. Although Houston is not directly in the storm’s path, there is a risk of flooding. Since Wednesday the guest list has dropped from 150 to 40 and then to 15.
“After the preacher canceled, we thought we might just tune him in on Skype,” joked Swarers, “but we knew we had to cancel.”
“We thought Harvey won,” she said.
The couple, who live in Orange, Texas, near the Louisiana border, now crouch down with enough brisket and potato salad to feed 150 people.
Will the couple try to celebrate wedding # 4?
“The joke now is we’re far from the water and we’re going to Vegas where there is no danger of water,” lamented Swarers.
