Another award for local celebrity Richy Roy. Earlier this week, the talented man was named Saskatchewan’s Best Wedding DJ.
It was an extensive process that took a few months. It was actually an International Wedding Awards jury that gave him the nod.
“International wedding awards have been given for years and are based in the UK. What happens is you have another professional in the industry to nominate you and then go through all of these exams,” explained Roy. “A jury in Great Britain actually decides who is the best professional wedding DJ.”
Roy said he was humble and honored to have received such praise for his work. Of course, that’s not all he does. He’s also a magician, balloon twister, writer, and on the side a game show host. It’s been a busy summer for arguably the most interesting man in Weyburn, but all of his hard work has paid off.
With this award, he is now competing against other provincial winners in a similar competition to compete for the crown of Canada’s best wedding DJ.
“You will get a beautiful crystal statue to send to the winners, but it is an opportunity to network with wedding professionals around the world. You can find out what these people are doing that makes them great and then put them in ours Bring back your hometown and incorporate it with local weddings, “said Roy.
It seems like an easy job to play music that everyone likes. However, Roy said there is so much more that adds up to a great performance.
“We try to make weddings fun and different these days. We’re no longer just a guy who makes music and plays pressure. Now we’re a planner, a coordinator, a presenter and the entertainment. When I do things like cocktail magic or balloons it turns it into a memorable event, “he noted. “We feel responsible for 90 percent of the success of a wedding. We try to keep the guests there for as long as possible and everyone goes away and says this is the best night of their lives.”
The next round of the competition can take two to three months for the national winner to be announced. If Roy won again, he would be promoted to an international wedding DJ competition.
