How we met
from the groom Chinedu
In the early stages of our relationship, our encounters were usually brief and over the phone because I lived in Houston and she lived in Charlotte. From our phone calls, I could tell that she was a godly, kind, caring, and strong-willed woman. I found my days incomplete if I hadn’t spoken to her in some form or way. When I finally went to Amaka’s graduation and saw her, I knew I had to make sure that this woman was in my life forever. She didn’t know then, but I knew she was right for me and that I would marry her someday. Although we were technically far apart, it wasn’t going to look like that because at every opportunity I would go to Charlotte and spend it with her, or she would come to Houston and hang out with me. During this time, our love continued to grow and blossom every day.
from Amaka, the bride
Chinedu and I met through our two families. I met his family when I was 17 while doing the hair of a mutual family friend. In the later years of our studies we became friends and kept in touch over the phone. I was pretty naive about the fact that he was interested in me until I graduated. Our friendship slowly developed into a relationship. When it got there, it went off to what it is today. I thank God for bringing him into my life. He really is the love of my life and my best friend. I couldn’t ask for a better father for our daughter Sariah or for our future children.
suggestion
from the bride Amaka
On November 1st, 2013, my lover asked the question! During this time I was very busy with exams and homework. I actually took an exam early that afternoon on the day of the engagement. Fortunately, I was busy with an exam all day so he could prepare for the proposal. I say luckily because I’m not the easiest person to surprise. Later that evening he said we would go out to eat and meet his boss because he was “in town”. I just wanted to get dressed very casually, but then I saw that he was getting dressed. I think we should bring each other’s fly together so I quickly turned into something nicer.
We got into the restaurant and a few minutes after dinner I started asking him about his “boss”. I asked where the boss was and why he hadn’t had dinner with us. As he pondered over answers to my questions, I decided to stop myself before ruining a possible surprise. I didn’t know the potential surprise was an engagement, but I thought there would still be a surprise and too many questions could ruin the moment.
After dinner, my lover said we would meet his “boss”. The restaurant was in a very nice hotel called Granduca located in the Galleria area of ??Houston. When we went to the hotel room, I thought, “This is unprofessional. What kind of fun business is his boss doing? “Then I calmed myself down by finding out that we might meet him in his Executive / Presidential Suite (an environment that has a living room where you can talk professionally instead of talking over a bed).
We approached the suite and my lover opened the door. At that point, I looked at him like he was okay. The door opened … I saw rose petals and candles on the floor that led into the bedroom. I felt so special. He quickly said to me, “This is just something I’ve wanted to do for you since you had such a hectic month.” He left me speechless. All I could say was “I love you so much” between the dozen of kisses and hugs when we STILL stood by the front door. Finally we went out on the balcony and he started discussing long term relationship issues and telling me how much I mean to him and how much he loves and adores me. We went back into the living room and I sat down. Then he fell to one knee. My eyes jumped in shock. I kept saying, “Oh my god!” Tears filled my eyes when he asked the question. I was overwhelmed with the joy that I almost forgot to answer him. Finally, he placed the beautiful princess cut diamond frame ring on my left hand, followed by a sensual kiss and hug.

Advice to other couples
Don’t underestimate the power of prayer. Through prayer we can overcome any obstacle and become spiritually stronger together.

Our wedding style
We wanted our wedding to feel and look very regal and divine. The white wedding ceremony was a traditional Catholic ceremony. The reception was very heavenly, as our wedding guests would say. We kept certain cultural elements because we love our culture and wanted our non-Nigerian guests to get a taste of our traditions and customs. I think overall, our wedding captured the essence of our relationship. We believe we are a match made in heaven.
Chioma of Dure Events completely changed the appearance of the community center with white crystals with a touch of gold and elegant blue lighting.
The six sisters of the bride Amaka all danced together to celebrate the couple!
