This was a lovely place to hold a wedding. They have many rooms to chose from to accommodate any sized wedding from 50 ppl to over 500 people. The place is beautiful inside as well as the surrounding environment. Located right in the middle of the rustic Sugar Land Town Square. Beautiful scenery and many shops nearby including a Starbucks right next door to it.

Bride and Groom got away from me bofore I could ask them for my signature shot of them two together. This was a fun event, small amount of guests, but everyone participated and danced the songs they liked. Also this was a very diverse guest list that attended. Either way, the Bride and Groom and their guests had a fantastic time. Even at one point they had to go ask the staff for a brom to dance to the Limbo.

Here are some pictures for those of you who are considering the Courtyard on St. James Place as your wedding venue. I thought it was a very cozy place the staff was fantastic to work with. They immediately took me in and helped me get set up on time. Throughout dinner there were very attentive to the guests. The coordinator was very great to work with and provided a schedule that the B&G agreed to. The dance atmosphere was amazing. They had a wonderful time there.
I was recently at the Royal Oaks Country club during a wedding reception that took place on September 27th 2008. It was the first time I ever went to Royal Oaks to perform the DJ and MC duties for one of my clients. The country club is stunningly beautiful. The reception area is full of long crystal clear windows that oversee the beautifully kept green fairways of the golf course. The ceremony area outside is also very elegant and beautiful. If timed correctly you could have a beatiful ceremony alongside a lovely sunset. Well Here are some pictures taken during the wedding reception. People really enjoyed themselves that night.

Professional Wedding Dj in Houston
If you have, then you know exactly what I’m talking about…
Non-Professionally trained wedding Dj’s that ruin a wedding!
This weekend, I took the weekend off to spend with my family. We decided to attend a family event, which just happened to be a wedding. Let me just tell you, it felt like the looongest wedding I had ever attended, and I am talking about feeling this by 8:00pm. People don’t like to attend weddings because weddings are boring, they are not properly entertained, and because they are not wow’d from the moment they arrive at the reception venue. Their sensory system is not impressed at all. If all their senses are not properly entertained, they easily lose interest and now feel like they are imprisoned for the rest of the night. That’s how I felt Saturday night.
Now, I can’t talk about the sense of smell, the sense of sight, or the sense of touch, but I can talk to you about the sense of hearing and taste. But for my audience’s purpose I will concentrate about the sense of sound.
Music is a stimulant; it can stimulate you to feel relaxed, hyper, active, etc… It also helps you pass time when you are just sitting there and have no one to talk to for short periods of time. You start noticing the background music and you tend to find yourself enjoying something you would normally never enjoy. Not to mention, music sets the mood of a room, or an audience.
When we walked into the reception area, the first thing we noticed was that there was no music. Now since I am a DJ I was expecting to hear some music, my only curiosity was the type of music that would be played. Well, there was none, just people mumbling like they were at a subway, at a park, at a noisy classroom right before the teacher walks in, etc… It did not feel like we were attending a wedding, it felt more like we were just at an everyday place you don’t really want to be, but have to.
I feel that the background music, even if it’s something you really don’t particularly hear on a day to day basis, would have added a bit of an ambiance and would put you at a wedding reception, surrounded by close friends and family.
Another thing that I feel having no music did was, it separated the groom’s friends and family from the bride’s friends and family. I felt it created like a dual, a separation, a distance. Like if they were intruders in our personal event. OK maybe I’m stretching it, but it did feel like that. I guess I don’t see that too much at the weddings I attend, but I know that if you put some jazzy beat, some classical background music, some romantic melodies, or something smooth, it will relax all of your sense and put you more at ease to trust those strangers. Again, this is my opinion of what happened that night.
So here are 10 ways that a non-professional wedding dj can ruin your wedding, without him even knowing it.
We will start with the music. They don’t play any music during the dinner/reception hour. Uggh, annoying… boring… unprofessional!!
They don’t find out what kind of music the bride and groom like beforehand, so they play what they are used to: All night loooong: During Dinner, During Cocktails, During Dancing. A big no no…
They don’t inform the audience of what is about to happen, what is happening, and what to expect. What just happened? ever hear that? or What’s going on over there?
They dress inappropriately. How embarrassing is it to have someone represent you in an unprofessional manner? Shame on you!
They do not announce your bridal party when asked to. They are the bride and groom’s best friends, they want the bridal party to be recognized for their time spent with them through the planning stages, they want to guests to know they are important people in their lives. When the DJ did not announce them, I saw the bride burst out in tears. SAD… you paid for that… very sad…
They do not have an itinerary to help the bride and groom run and organize the wedding. (no that is not the wedding planner’s job, especially when one was not hired, and no that is not the bride and groom’s job to make one up, it’s up to the DJ if there is no wedding planner present!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Come on!!! Evolve already!
They don’t find out what type of music BOTH sides of the family like to dance.
THEY DON’T ALLOW THE BRIDE AND GROOM OR THEIR FAMILY TO REQUEST SONGS THEY LOVE TO DANCE TO!
They play unedited, inappropriate music. It’s a wedding, not a night club.
They disrespect, make fun of, your guests over the microphone. Ditto!
Obviously, anyone who does ALL these things, should never be invited to a wedding let a lone be asked to MC and DJ yours.
Now the DJ at this particular wedding did not do all these, he did not even do half of these. But with two or three things that he did do, it made it seem like a long, enjoyable wedding where everyone was just sitting there looking at each other wondering: When is this going to get good?
This wedding reminded me how the music is an important-vital part to any wedding reception.
I hope this helps you AVOID an un-enjoyable evening at your wedding reception.
I’m happy. I was asked to DJ a Wedding Recently for friends of the family and I decided to take video of my mixing abilities so that I can hear what the people hear. Most of the time when I’m DJing I get so into the music that all my concentration is on making sure the mix comes out flawless, and that no one is interrupted in their dancing groove or their dancing step, that I don’t really hear what the guests hear. This in the DJ world is called Beat Mixing or Beat matching. this is where the dj goes from one song to the next and it sounds seamless or the sound and beat keep going. MOST DJ’s do n’t do this because they claim they don’t have to. I have proven over and over to DJ’s that if they take the time to learn to beatmatch, their events will be ALOT more successful. However, since it is hard work and takes extra effort learn, for those who havent’mastered it, these djs usually don’t make the effort to learn to match beats.
Once you master the concept of beatmixing, it is actually easy to do. It’s like riding a 10 speed bike effectively. But it does take a lot of concentration even though it’s still easy. I mean, you still have to determine what the next song should be that’s around the same BPM (Beats Per Minute), the unit of measure that DJs use, or close to it. Add to that that you have to make sure the musical sounds or instruments are similar or sound similar enough to get by. Also, you have to determine if you should keep playing the same genre or switch it up to a new genre. If you do switch it what will you switch it too so that you can keep as many people on the dance floor and bring in some of the people that have been waiting to dance. Aaaaand you have to keep withing the specifications of what the bride and groom (or your clients) request or want to hear. So again, I say it’s easy, bearing all this in mind. Easy, as I said before.
Well the videos are on Youtube and are linked to below:
They are all of spanish music, it was for a latino wedding and the only music they wanted to hear was spanish. Now I did sneak in the Cupid Shuffle, Cha Cha Slide and the Boot Scootin Boogie.
Also, the light system used is our highest upgrade and does not come with our standard packages.
This past weekend, August 23rd 2008 was the second time I’ve visited this beautiful place. In my honest opinion, this is one of, if not, the most beatiful wedding venues in all of Houston Texas; that I have been to.
It is just beautiful. This time I took a lot better pictures of the insides and outsides as well as my normal, people dancing and having a great time. There was a lot more light too since I arrived a lot earlier than I was supposed to.
Pictures will be uploaded soon and linked to from here.
Well as all you Houston Brides know, the owners of the Beautiful Bella Terrazza have recently (in the last year) opened a new venue, The Tuscan Villa of Garden Oaks, and is booking up fast. Erin tells me, this past Saturday, that it is the place where she will be having her wedding in the next few days. Congratulation Erin.
I personally have not been there to DJ or even to look at the Venue, but by what everyone else tells me, it is very beautiful.
Here are some pictures I took this past Saturday from the Bella Terrazza Wedding I had the pleasure to DJ.
DJ Francisco Review of Paraiso Marabilla; a wedding venue located in Houston Texas.
I was at Paraiso Marabilla on May 31, 2008 for the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Smithwick, which was very nice, elegant and fun.
Upon arrival, there was nothing set up, just the bare place and even then Paraiso Marabilla was just beautiful. It’s one of the most beautiful places to hold your wedding. Out of all the places I’ve been to DJ this is the one I like the most.
Let me take a few words from their website that just truly captures the feeling of being there:
With courtyards full of blooming bougainvillea, hibiscus, and other greenery, Paraiso Maravilla truly presents itself as a “marvelous paradise,” which is the translation of the venues unique name. The indirect light and an abundance of candles transform this already beautiful facility into an overwhelmingly romantic atmosphere. “Once the gates close and the visitor is tucked inside, he or she is transported thousands of miles away to a Latin American and Mediterranean fantasy. All traces of Houston are gone. Every visual angle with the high walls is picture perfect – a romantic arched gateway in this direction, a splashing fountain surrounded by rich foliage straight ahead, a playful curving stairway in the other direction. “Here, a massive mantle. There, a vast expanse of Italian marble just right for dancing.”
It’s a unique feeling, it feels as if you are outside enjoying the most beautiful weather and atmosphere, but with the commodity of modern day Air Conditioning. The architecture is amazing; I loved the feel of the place. You just have to see it to understand.
The one thing I remember is the floors, they are just beautiful and it makes you wonder… are they going to allow the guests to dance on those beautiful floors?
